FOCIP COVID-19 Work Party Procedures

January 25, 2021

Hi FOCIP Volunteers, here is some good news for 2021.We will be allowed to return to the State Parks ... on Tuesday Feb. 2nd. Our procedure will be similar to what we were doing in Oct. and Nov. I will announce the work party by email on the Sunday before a work party will be held. The announcement will include some of the tasks that will be available. If you are interested in attending let me know as soon as you can because we are limited to only 12 volunteers. If you are late to respond there may be some tasks available that are not located in the State Parks. I will email to let you know if you were selected, when, and where to meet by Monday evening. The morning of the work party you must self-access your health condition. This is still an important consideration for yourself and your fellow volunteers. Masks are required and you must observe the social distancing of 6 feet. The following is the update that I have just received from Jeff Wheeler. Stay safe and I hope to see you on Feb. 2nd. ------------  Tom

Based on additional new guidance provided by the Governor’s updated Outdoor Recreation COVID—19 Requirements, we have again updated our “Guidance on Volunteer Activity During COVID-19”. This update provides revised guidance consistent with the interpretation and approach being followed by other state and local agencies and partner organizations (e.g., WTA, EMBA & BCH).

Summary of Changes to Volunteer Guidance (beginning Jan. 21)

  • For all regions and all phases, volunteer activities are limited to a maximum of 12 participants (this does not include staff or group leaders)
  • A daily attendance log and contact information for all participants must be kept and retained for 28 days after each volunteer event to assist with contact tracing in the event of a possible exposure.

Additional recommendations

  • Please ensure that all group events at your parks have been approved by your Region Manager.
  • If hosting an approved group volunteer event with participants that are not existing, approved volunteers – they must sign a “Volunteer Event Waiver form” (see attached) before participating. This should only be used for events that attract new and one-time only volunteers, such as beach cleanups. Regular, repeat volunteers in your park should fill out an application and go through the regular approval process.
  • Please ensure your volunteers are asking themselves the screening questions before arriving at the park. Any volunteers that feel unwell, show any signs of COVID-19, or are a close contact of a confirmed case will not be allowed to participate in volunteer activities.
  • Avoid sharing of tools. If appropriate, encourage volunteers to bring and use their personal tools.
  • Masks should be worn by participants at all times.
  • A minimum of 6 feet of physical distance is required – but this should be increased if volunteers are engaged in more strenuous, high-intensity activities.
  • Please ensure volunteers have a place to wash their hands or provide hand sanitizer.

- Tom will email the work party volunteer list by Saturday evening with a list of some of the tasks that might be tackled at the following Tuesday work party.  In the email will also be the COVID symptoms checklist that the volunteers need to review.
If a volunteer is planning on coming on Tuesday they will email or call Tom by noon Monday saying that they will come. If they had a preference of a tasks, they could request one but it’s subject to change.  Tom or the team leaders will email to all responding volunteers by Monday evening a list of the team leader and the volunteers assigned to a particular task with where to meet the leader.

- For now, we will not post the tasks on the website but there will be a notice of when the work parties are, the protocols and those volunteers should look for an email.

- Volunteers must properly wear a mask at all times in the park and maintain social distancing.

- Each task will have a team leader and no more than 4 additional volunteers

- Only the task leaders will get the materials for the job.  The task leaders will meet with the available park staff at 8:30 for a brief meeting.

- No more than 3 task leaders/volunteers will be in the shop to get tools at a time.

- No more than 3 volunteers are to be in the FOCIP office at a time.  These volunteers should open doors and windows while working there to ensure proper ventilation.

- Team leaders and if necessary, park staff will meet the volunteers at the task location by 9:30.

- Team leaders will conduct a temperature check of the volunteers and mark it as completed.  Any volunteer with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher will be sent home.  Volunteers will be required to initial that they read the COVID symptoms checklist.

- Work parties will be completed by noon (no meeting for lunch)

- Only the team leader or designated volunteer will return the tools to the shop.  The tools will be cleaned and disinfected with Lysol.

- FOCIP will supply hand sanitizer, masks, spray disinfection, disposable exam gloves and a thermometer to each team leader.
